Chapter 274
Life at the Jing household turned out to be easier to adapt to than Little Jing Yi had imagined.
Her parents were wonderful, her older brother was wonderful, and her older sister was wonderful too. It felt as though they were always meant to be a family.
The only slight trouble was that they were too good to her.
Lin Ruiqing held Little Jing Yi in her arms and gently asked, "Yi Yi, how about sleeping with Mom tonight?"
Little Jing Yi nestled obediently in Lin Ruiqing's embrace, her expression slightly conflicted. "Mom, I promised Sister I'd sleep with her today."
Lin Ruiqing quickly came up with a solution. "That's no problem. Both of you can sleep with me."
What could be better than two sweet and soft daughters? The middle-aged man could just roll to the side.
Jing Beicheng, the middle-aged man who had just managed to feel young again: Although... it had already been a week since he last slept in the master bedroom...
The matter of who would attend the parent-teacher meeting also troubled Little Jing Yi.
She rested her chin on her hands, watching as the family held a meeting to decide who would go to her parent-teacher meeting.
Lin Ruiqing was the first to speak. "This is Yi Yi's first parent-teacher meeting. I must go!" Wasn't it only natural for a mother to attend her child's meeting?
Jing Beicheng set down his teacup and cleared his throat. "Actually, I could go too." After all, it was their youngest daughter's first meeting. Shouldn't the father attend to show how much they cared?
Jing Zeyou remained calm and composed. "I should go. After all, I'm the one tutoring Yi Yi. I know her situation best." With their parents so busy, it made sense for the eldest brother to handle such matters.
Jing Zeqian, not wanting to be outdone, slammed the table and stood up. "Of course, it should be me! It has to be me!" There was no particular reason, but he *had* to go!
The Jing family: ...
At first, Little Jing Yi was a bit worried. She glanced in Jing Zejun's direction. They were in the same class, so her parent-teacher meeting was also Jing Zejun's.
That was, until she saw Jing Zejun joining the discussion.
Jing Zejun stood up, feeling her small stature might not be enough to make her voice heard. She climbed onto a chair.
"I should go. Mom, Dad, and my brothers all have their own things to do. Since Yi Yi and I are in the same class, it’s more convenient for me."
She wasn’t really a child anymore, so why would she care about a parent-teacher meeting?
Compared to such matters, Jing Zejun cared more about Jing Yi. She had heard from Jing Zeyou about what had happened to Little Jing Yi at school before. She wished she could grow up faster to better protect her.
The Jing family: What happened to our gentle and obedient Jun Jun?
Jing Zeqian had a look of disbelief. "Jun Jun, you still need someone to attend *your* parent-teacher meeting..." A seven- or eight-year-old shouldn’t be running for this position, right?
Jing Zejun, unwilling to back down, was about to argue further when Little Jing Yi chimed in, thinking it was a great idea.
Her eyes sparkled, and the dimples on her cheeks deepened as she smiled. "That sounds good! Why don’t Sister and I switch and attend each other's parent-teacher meetings?" She had never done something like this before.
The idea was, of course, unanimously rejected. They couldn’t let *none* of them go, could they?
In the end, it was decided that Lin Ruiqing and Jing Beicheng would attend together, while the two brothers could accompany them and listen from outside the classroom.
On the day of the parent-teacher meeting, Little Jing Yi was visibly happy. She held Jing Zejun's hand and skipped into the classroom.
The school Jing Yi and Jing Zejun attended was a well-known international school in North River, catering to students from elementary to high school.
Apart from its excellent faculty, it was also a school that many prominent families in North River vied to send their children to.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
Though Little Jing Yi's classmates were just elementary school students, most of them were sharp and knew who not to mess with.
For example, the newly transferred Jing Yi.
They had learned from their parents that Jing Yi was the youngest daughter of the Jing family. Whether she was biological or adopted didn’t matter—what mattered was that she wasn’t someone to provoke.
Not to mention the outwardly gentle but fiercely protective Jing Zejun, who had already shielded her completely. Then there was Jing Zeqian, the heartthrob and school bully of the high school division, who visited their class at least twice a day just to make sure no one was bullying his little sisters.
Jing Zeqian carried two backpacks, one in each hand, as usual, escorting his sisters to their classroom.
Before leaving, he reminded them, "Big Brother will come to your parent-teacher meeting later. Wait for me, okay?"
Jing Zejun couldn’t help but shudder at the cheesiness. Her second brother was finally getting his fill of being an overprotective older brother.
Jing Yi obediently replied, "Okay!" Jing Zeqian beamed, patting both their heads before leaving with a satisfied expression.
Jing Zejun sighed, ignoring Jing Zeqian's smugness, and led Little Jing Yi to her seat.
A few classmates gathered around. Over time, Little Jing Yi had noticed their friendliness, though it seemed to come with some ulterior motives.
But she didn’t mind. As long as they didn’t bully her like her previous classmates had, Little Jing Yi was easy to please.
"Yi Yi, is your brother coming to your parent-teacher meeting this afternoon?"
Jing Zejun glanced at the group of girls surrounding them, silently noting how her second brother's looks seemed to attract endless attention.
It was no wonder that even as the boss of 'Startrack,' he garnered more attention than most of the artists.
Little Jing Yi, following her sister's lead, took out her textbooks and stationery, smiling sweetly. "No, it’s Mom and Dad who are coming."
The kids looked puzzled. "But your brother just said..." Little Jing Yi blinked her innocent eyes. "Oh, Mom said Brother can only listen from outside. But we have to save face for him, or he’ll cry."
The kids were stunned. The big brother from the high school division... cried?
Jing Zejun couldn’t hold back her laughter, turning her head to hide her smile.
It wouldn’t be long before rumors spread through the school that Jing Zeqian from the high school division was a crybaby.
When the bell rang, Jing Zeqian slung his backpack over his shoulder and dashed out of the classroom. His classmates were used to it—it was obvious he was off to pick up his sisters.
By the time Jing Zeqian arrived, the parent-teacher meeting had already started, and Jing Zeyou was standing at the door, listening intently.
Catching his breath, Jing Zeqian noticed a group of kids whispering not far away, their eyes darting in his direction.
He frowned. Were they talking about Jing Yi?
The memory of Little Jing Yi being bullied was still fresh in Jing Zeqian's mind. He made sure to visit her class punctually every day to ensure she wasn’t being mistreated.
Sometimes, the harm caused by words could be just as damaging as physical harm.
