The Dreamer's POV

Chapter 252 Explorer Shoes

[Emoni Monkey]

The monkeys were everywhere my eyes looked except above. They screamed, beat their hands and stomped on the branches they stood on in a display of what I think was a display of dominance.

I had stopped in their midst, my body hovering with my protective energy shield above me.

A bunch of the monkeys came at me again, gripping the vines and swinging to me. They sent kicks with their prehensile feet my way, doing nothing but hitting the hard walls of my <Haven>.

Then another set came, probably expecting things to go the same way as before, except I deactivated my energy shield, keen on their arrival.Nôv(el)B\\jnn

I held out my index finger and middle finger, a small flame kindling on it, and then I swiped, spinning and cutting through the flesh of all that dared come.

A flaming sword had burst from my fingers, and it cut through them like it was butter, searing many into halves, and their lifeless bodies fell to the ground below, there couldn't be a more fitting graveyard for them.

"Smells like beef."

One suddenly screamed, it wasn't like the screams of earlier, this one was a lot more high pitched and I could sense fear and hate behind it. And as if it was a beacon, those from around began screaming as well, and then those around them, until everyone screamed. A cacophony of wild bat shit sounds.

"I suppose I wouldn't achieve the quests with just killing five of your kind." I locked my fingers, stretching and cracking them.

"I should get more serious with this and go on ahead." My advanced grand rocks suddenly appeared by me with a mental command and I thought to check the quest once more. The quest had asked me to kill and massacre a bunch of them, but it didn't suggest a number, was I to kill until I got the notification of success?

'Sounds like a plan.'

My rocks brimmed with the energy coating them, and I suppose seeing me totally decimate their mates scared a bunch of them, as none thought to swing at me, they had even stopped their cries, remaining mute, and keeping their eyes on me.

It seemed–just an hypothesis of mine, that they had acknowledged me as a superior and had left me to peacefully pass through their turf. My demonstration earlier must have cemented my superiority and strength in their eyes.

I smirked, it wasn't enough. They should blame the system and not me, besides, it wasn't like I gave a shit about monkeys that respawned anyway.

I whistled, and my energy rocks zoomed past me and launched themselves at the monkeys. There were screams, screams that clearly told fear and they began scuttling and hiding once they saw the rocks burst into the others.

My rocks decimated them, going through them like butter, and making them nothing but pink pulp and guts. Bodies fell, too many too count, and monkeys screamed, and swung. They went further away from me, and I sent my rocks further unto them. They had no chance at escaping my light speed rocks. About twenty were killed in under two seconds and I had my rocks fell trees, further disorienting the bunch.

Chaos, carnage, death, sadness, pain and despair. Negative feelings flooded from the monkeys, they could process emotions, they could feel pain, and I could see all that they felt.

I watched the light trails of my rocks, and I listened as the cries lessened. I would be done genociding them at this rate. Then, there was a ding, a notification, and it was what I expected.

[System Notification]

[For killing over two thousand Emoni monkeys, you have achieved the monkey killer quest.]

[You have obtained monkey fur]

[Your <Domination> skill has multiplied in its effect]

[Your title, <Lord of the Jungle>, has been substantiated]

"Over a thousand monkeys? That's a surprise. And there, I was thinking that I had killed just about half a thousand of them. Hmmm…" My rocks drifted back to me. It had been about five minutes since I sent them against the monkeys, and they had killed over two thousand, I had killed over two thousand.

I felt a flood of emotions from the monkeys, and though theirs wasn't as deep and resonant as humans, they still got to me, but I felt nothing. The entire act felt like I was just doing a chore, one that I had expected to be tedious and exhilarating, only for it to be dull and easy.

'Thank goodness I didn't get the <Monkey Killer> title, that would be weird.'

A small part of me was a little apprehensive about taking on the quest because of the chance that I might gain that title.

'Glad to know that it was just a needless worry.'

I checked my system for the requirements to go through this floor once again.
