Chapter 873: First Circle, Limbo (Part 1)
Ready for the journey, the group set off towards the rock formation that Kaizen and Bloody Lily had discovered.
The hellish landscape continued to challenge their senses, with intense heat and magical emanations permeating every step.
Og'tharoz led the group, his demonic eyes shining with ancient wisdom as he walked with confidence.
"When we reach the formation, I need silence and concentration," said Og'tharoz, his voice deep and authoritative. "These ancient passages require a delicate touch and a deep understanding of infernal magics."
Kaizen nodded, keeping his hand on the hilt of his sword, ready for any eventuality. Blood Lily flew beside him, her eyes alert for any sign of danger. Alina, Xisrith and the other members of the group followed close behind, each prepared to face whatever was waiting.
When they reached the rock formation, Og'tharoz approached the ancient inscriptions. He ran his fingers over the symbols, muttering words in a forgotten language, and a faint luminescence began to emanate from the runes.
"These inscriptions were made by demons older than me, powerful enough to manipulate the energies of hell itself," Og'tharoz explained. "Now, I need everyone to keep a certain distance. Opening this portal could release a wave of energy."
The group took a few steps back, watching carefully as Og'tharoz continued to recite the incantations. The light on the inscriptions increased, growing in intensity until a blinding glow enveloped the rock formation. The air around them seemed to vibrate, charged with an almost palpable energy.
Suddenly, a crack opened in the rock, revealing a swirling portal of shadows and red lights. Og'tharoz took a step back, observing his work with a satisfied smile.
"It is done," he said. "Prepare to cross."
Kaizen looked at his companions, each nodding with determination. Together, they advanced towards the portal, feeling the intense energy emanating from the rift.
One by one, they crossed the barrier, feeling a strange sense of disorientation and pressure as they were transported to the other side.
When they emerged from the portal, the scene that awaited them was surprisingly different from what they had expected. Instead of a blazing inferno, they found themselves in vast green fields, with gentle hills and a light breeze that seemed a shocking contrast to the hellish landscape they had come from. The sky was blue and clear.
Everyone was very impressed by this sight.
Kaizen looked around, stunned by the abrupt change. "What is this place?"
Og'tharoz, with a knowing look, stepped forward. "Welcome to Limbo, the first circle of hell. It may not look like it, but we're already in the infernal realm. This is a place of waiting, where souls are suspended between salvation and damnation."
Alina looked around, her eyes wide with surprise. "I never imagined that hell could have such a... pleasant place."
"It's just the facade," explained Og'tharoz. "Although it looks peaceful, Limbo is a place of psychological torment. The souls here are tormented by uncertainty and purposelessness."
Xisrith approached Kaizen, his eyes fixed on the distant horizon. "So this is our starting point. We need to figure out how to advance to the lower circles."
Kaizen nodded, determined. "We need to find someone who can guide us. Og'tharoz, do you know where we can find information about the passage to the next circle?"
The demon pondered for a moment, his eyes fixed on the pale sky. "There are ancient guardians of Limbo, beings who preserve the knowledge and secrets of this circle. If we can find one of them, we can get the answers we're looking for."
The group started walking through the green fields, keeping an eye out for any sign of danger or hostile presence.
The contrast between the serenity of the environment and the tension of their mission created an atmosphere of unease, each step taken with caution and determination.
As they advanced, they began to notice the presence of misty figures in the distance. Lost souls wandered through the fields, their translucent and ethereal forms reflecting the uncertainty and anguish that permeated Limbo. Some seemed absorbed in thought, others muttered inaudible words, their expressions empty and desolate.
"This place is really disturbing," commented Bloody Lily, observing a soul who walked past them without even noticing their presence. "We can feel the weight of sadness and hopelessness in each of these souls."
Kaizen clenched his fist, feeling a wave of empathy for those tormented souls. "We need to stay focused. Our mission is crucial, and we can't let ourselves be overwhelmed by this environment."
After a walk that seemed to last hours, they came across an old building on the horizon.
As they got closer, clearer details emerged, revealing a majestic structure, an imposing castle that seemed to have been carved straight out of the rock. Seven imposing gates adorned its façade, each representing a pagan virtue: courage, wisdom, justice, temperance, hope, faith and love.
"This is it," said Og'tharoz, his voice low and reverent. "The Castle of the Pagan Virtues. Each of these gates is guarded by a test, a lesson that we must learn in order to advance."
Kaizen nodded, feeling a surge of determination. "If we need to pass through each of them, let's get started."
The group approached the first gate, marked with the symbol of courage. The gates were tall and carved with figures of warriors in battle, their faces expressing bravery and determination. As they approached, a deep voice echoed from the depths of the building.
"To pass through the Gate of Courage, you must face your greatest fears," the voice announced, reverberating in the air.
Kaizen exchanged a glance with his companions. "We are ready," he said in a firm voice.
Suddenly, the landscape around them began to distort. The verdant countryside disappeared, replaced by a barren wasteland.
Each member of the group was separated into a different scene, confronting their greatest phobias and insecurities. However, this challenge wasn't even close to being a problem. There was nothing they feared the game could use against them.
When the group emerged from their ordeals, they were exactly as before and once again faced with the gate of courage, which was now slowly opening, allowing them to pass through.
"There's no way I can be afraid of these things if I'm living my biggest nightmare right now..." muttered Og'tharoz, stepping forward. "Love, please wait for me."
