Chapter 605 Challenges Daimon & Nethereal sisters, Sarah's version (part 12)
For a moment, the pirate froze where he was standing, the whole sequence of the fight so far, repeated within his mind, how no matter what tricks he used he was bested by the green haired girl who was now blocking his path of retreat.
And he felt utter despair, because if what she said was true, then even after having obtained power directly from the source instead of the king, though it wasn't the largest amount he could have gotten if things happened differently, he never had a chance to win from the very beginning.
As if her anger was finally quelled, Jade's fierce aura changed back to its usual carefree state, not without saying.
"You see, me and my sisters once asked a person whose situation is what you thought mine was, if being like her will make us strong… to which she told us that no matter how high the multiplier might be, if the value of the multiplicand is zero then the final result will still be zero".
"So, my sisters and myself, steeled our resolution to improve our "value" and that's what brought us this far, looking at it from where I currently stand, we owe that person a lot, because if we didn't listen to her, we would be losers that are carried by someone instead of companions that walk side to side".
Having said what she wanted others, or more accurately what she wanted Daimon to hear, which was the honest feelings in the hearts of Scarlet and her other sisters, Jade didn't forget to add one last thing in a voice that only James could hear.
'Also, if the one who has been granted power by "him" was here, let alone your queen, your whole team together wouldn't be a match for her'.
And that was the last nail in the pirate's coffin, because there was no mockery in Jade's voice, even as his enemy he could tell that she was being completely honest, which meant that she has witnessed the power of the person in question.
And he was right, of course Jade was referring to Aisha, the only one to whom even the crazy girl showed respect, not only because she is Daimon's "closest" person, as she was introduced as his sister, but also because she is overwhelmingly strong.
Daimon who was observing the fight, gathering the last bits of information needed for the conclusion he was going to present to Scarlet and the others, couldn't help but inwardly frown.
So far, when it came to Neptune, no when it came to the public in general, Aisha and the others hadn't used the powers they were granted due to their status as soulmates, no one besides Aster have seen or know about them, or at least that used to be the case.
Apparently, that mother of his, made a little "demonstration" when he wasn't looking, which is what earned her the top spot among all the girls, Daimon turned to see the crazy girl who was still holding onto his arm just to see her clearly feigning ignorance about it, which basically confirmed his supposition.
He then changed his attention to another pair of girls who were feigning ignorance, but obviously had to notice what he was thinking about, given that they are always on the look.
'You two knew it, right?', he asked to Eve and Narasha, while Aisha haven't met Scarlet and the others since they entered Neptune, meaning that she must have bumped into them at the Global Raid, all the others gathered and got closer to each other, while staying at the flying citadel where there were some times when he was completely out, giving Aisha a chance to escape his sight.
Daimon's gaze, made the Eve whistle and look away in denial, but Narasha directly answered.
'According to Aisha, this way we could identify and keep "interest-driven gold-diggers" away from Daimon', she said making Daimon be at a loss for words.
'Ahem, I have heard a lot of stories about users that fell due to having chosen the wrong person in which to trust, so Aisha made a good point, also she said you were going to notice the results soon', said Eve, to which Narasha innocently added.
'Mm, I remember Eve being easily convinced after Aisha said it was for Daimon's wellbeing'.
'Hey, Nasha, what's the point of making you keep a secret if you are going to spill it at the first given chance!', exclaimed Eve.
Daimon chuckled at those two, he didn't blame them nor was he angry with Aisha, looking at it from their point of view, he suddenly got surrounded by what a dozen of girls, all with their particular circumstances, so Aisha decided to give them a little test.
If they changed for the worst due to greed after witnessing what they could get from Daimon, then she would have personally… taken things into her hands, but if they changed for the best, then they would be considered trust worthy.
Originally, Aisha didn't think there was a need for the previous, but the group increased a lot in just a matter of months and according to what she discussed with Eve, this was a normal occurrence for system users, given that other people tend to gather around them.
And in Daimon's particular case, this specially applies to the opposite gender, whether he intends for it to happen or not, of course according to Evangeline things kind of blew out of proportion this time due to one of the two enemies he had to face.
Which was of course Adam since "hero" type users obtain fortunate encounters through getting involved with women and Daimon stole what would have probably been, Adam's life opportunity to raise up.
Anyway, it's not as if she didn't believe in Daimon's judgement, but she wanted to be sure, especially since she knows that inevitably some will aim to more than a platonic friendship with her darling.
Needless to say, but they all passed the test given by Aisha, and apparently Scarlet and the others, experienced the most notorious change for the best.
'I'm pretty sure is wasn't just mom's doing, this has Erin's name written all over it', amusingly thought Daimon, you might believe that it's impossible for Erin to be involved in this matter given that they have had no contact in a really long time, but Daimon wouldn't doubt for even a second that the cunning fox matriarch had predicted this whole situation years ahead before it happened and talked about it with Aisha beforehand.
Ultimately Daimon shook his head, this subject could wait until he reunited with that overprotective mother of his, for now he decided to focus on Jade, given that she was about to end her fight, judging by the scream that just reached his ears.
"Ahhh!", that scream was James who lost it after getting to know the truth, of him being a mere part of the stage used by Jade to show off her improvement to Daimon, though she had already said it right to his face, earlier.
In a pathetic display, the pirate turned around and ran in a random direction, he tried to use a movement spell just for him to fail like when he tried to attack Jade, which only brought even more despair to him.
"Luckily I chose to go last, it would have soured the mood to see such an unsightly act right at the start", mumbled Jade, her figure flashed and the next thing that happened was that her pretty fist which was cladded in light green jade punched a hole through James's chest, killing him on the spot.
With a "thud" the corpse of the pirate landed on the ground and before anything else happened, it sank in a black invisible portal, which made a vein pop in the forehead of the enemy queen.
That being said, she wasn't in the mood to fight over the corpse of James, given that earlier her she was "blocked" from listening to the conversation between Jade and the pirate, which is something that shouldn't be possible.
Though the queen pieces couldn't actively participate in the battles, they could supervise them and that implied communicating with their subordinates in real time, in other words, whatever the green haired Jade did, surpassed her authority as a queen even if it was just for a short moment!
And that was worrying, because based on the information she has been gathering, among all the participants, besides the masked man who somehow was assigned to be the king piece of the three queens on the enemy side, his opponent, that crazily annoying purple haired girl, was considered to be the strongest.
'That blond haired girl from earlier was already dangerous and she just obtained nether, but this bitch had obtained it some time ago… whatever the Lord's plan is flawless, the match will end before it even starts and I'll bring her dead body to the Lord!', inwardly swore Sheilla as she glared at Sarah who mockingly smiled at her.
Experience new tales on empire
'Hurry up and finish the damn thing', thought the enemy queen, just to realize that despite James being as dead as one can be, there was no signs of the announcement of victory from the challenge.
"Is this your doing, you cheating bastard…", just as she turned around to lash out at Daimon, a black flash passed next to her face, leaving behind a fierce current of wind which messed up her hair horribly
The previous which though angered her, wasn't the biggest of her worries but the fact that she felt as if dead had grazed her.
'That thing was aiming for my head!', she inwardly screamed, the black sea emblem actually gave off the feeling of wanting to pierce her head which triggered the barrier of the challenge, making the sea emblem play it off as a "joke" by messing up with her hair instead.
Still, Sheilla could feel the unadulterated threat behind the acts of the sea emblem, it was basically saying "shut up", which naturally made the enemy queen grit her teeth, now imagine her expression when the black sea emblem appeared at Jade's battlefield, taking the latter by surprise.
"What are you…", Jade who seemed worried that the thing floating next to her, had interrupted the finale of her fight, as she thought that she wasn't going to make it in time before her round ended, smiled upon seeing a portal from which a few familiar people came out, appear.
Naturally they were Scarlet and the others, all but Ruby who had to stay at the resting area with an unconvinced expression on her pretty face.
"That's not fair…", mumbled the red-haired young girl while pouting, Jasmine who was standing near her, patted her head with a gentle smile.
"Now, don't get angry, now it's the turn for your older sisters, you'll have your chance to shine later on", she said, making Daimon bitterly smile not knowing whether she was trying to comfort Ruby or herself, given that she was also the youngest of the nethereal sisters and got the last turn.
The situations were different though, since Ruby apparently hadn't obtained her glyph yet, she did become a mage though but unlike her older sisters, she remained at the star ranks instead of becoming a Lord one, not that it was weird, considering she is younger than Scarlet and the others.
"Well, it seems like my presence is needed", said Daimon as he saw the same portal that brought Scarlet and company to Jade's battlefield, to which the crazy girl said with an exaggeratively aggrieved voice.
"This is my challenge so why is my king paying attention to other women?", listening to the sad and heart-broken tone in Sarah's voice, one would believe she was wronged… until you saw the intense gaze in her eyes as she licked her lips at Daimon, that being said and against the wishes of every cell in her body, she let go of him.
Let's not forget that she loved to be "mistreated" by him in any way, her words not Daimon's, in fact she loved both to be treated bad, nice or neutral, whatever as long as the sender was Daimon which is the origin of the headache that the latter caused him, as there was no possible right answer for how to deal with her, besides trying to tame her with bribes, for example not avoiding her like the plague if she controlled herself to a decent level like Daimon has been doing after their time together at Kerrol.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
'You are for sure going to ask me to bring you along with me for Jasmine's round, so you can't complain', limited to say Daimon with mana transmission as he jumped into the portal, leaving behind a crazy girl with dumb smile on her pretty face.
"Ah my king surely knows me well~", she happily mumbled, ever since his black sea emblem made its appearance earlier, showing to have the power to bend the rules of the challenge just like the Nethereal Lords, Daimon was a hundred percent sure the crazy girl was going to ask him to bring her along for the last round, since it was related to Jasmine.
For a moment he even thought that's what she wanted as a "reward" if she emerged victorious without the need for any external help, but if that would have been the case, then the crazy girl wouldn't have had that incredibly rare to see nervous and indecisive expression when she asked him about it, since she knew Daimon found the caring sisterly side she showed when it came to Jasmine and more recently Reyne, worthy of respect.
The merry smile on Sarah then took a 180° unnatural turn into an ice-cold murderous expression, as she glared at Sheilla who for a split of a second thought to try and go into Jade's battlefield to interrupt whatever was happening, to then say.
"Unless you want to die, I would suggest you stay where you are".
The enemy queen froze in her place, the sudden change in Sarah's attitude made her feel a chill running down her spine, but then she was reminded of the fact that she wasn't afraid of her.
"How dare you…", but as she was yelling to the crazy girl, she realized that the portal which had remained "open", didn't lead to any visible place, unlike before, in other words that portal might have looked like the one created by the black sea emblem, but it wasn't.
'No way, was that a trap!', she inwardly screamed, not understanding why would Sarah warn her if that was the case, a question that was solved by the crazy girl herself the next second.
"I need a "demonstration dummy" to show my improvement, so until I have earned my reward you won't be allowed to die even if you want to~", she said back to her merry and carefree self.
'Crazy bitch', limited to think the enemy queen, that being said any curiosity regarding whatever the masked guy and those colorful haired women were talking about, died on the spot, that's right once again her connection with the battlefield was blocked, which is why she wanted to go there to spy, which caused a certain undead head maid living in Daimon's shadow to lay a trap, in case she wanted to interrupt Daimon.
'Humph, how dare you insult Daimon', thought Rita whose eyes were firmly fixated on Sheilla, from the shadows, to be honest had it not interfered with her chance to show off in front of Daimon, Sarah would have personally thrown Sheilla into the portal created by the undead head maid as she couldn't directly turn her into a puddle of blood due to the rules of the challenge, she was present when she insulted Daimon after all, unfortunately she needed her to remain alive, so she had to against her will, keep her out of the trap, hence why she got angry.
Back at Jade and the others, Daimon who appeared on their battlefield, looked at the black sea emblem which turned into a black flash that returned to his pocket while thinking.
'You really do whatever you want', he could feel four expecting gazes, nearly piercing holes through his body, waiting for his final answer.
"Ahem, you want hear my conclusion regarding your newly acquired powers and abilities, right?", he said.
"Mm, mm" those four nodded twice in confirmation, it might seem childish but this was something important for them, considering that the effort they put in showing off their improvement, didn't lose at all when compared to the Risha sisters or Reyne.
"Okay, honestly it was hard to make a proper answer but the many hints given by you all, made me realize a few things, first and formal you not only gained three things due to whatever challenge you faced, an energy similar in composition to nether as in it is formed by a combination of mana and a strong emotion, but instead of a negative one I would say it is a positive one, next those glyphs which come with some sort of special effects and last but not least… an innate ability which you can only use in the state you attain thanks to the glyphs, am I right?", he said to which those four eyes sparkled in response.
"I'll take that as a yes", said Daimon while softly laughing.
"How did you discern each one of them?", asked Scarlet.
"Well, the energy one was the easiest, I have become rather used to nether's composition thanks to a certain crazy someone, though yours appears to be regular mana and only changes when using your glyphs, as I learned thanks to the notorious changes in Lapis's mana, this might be because you all only recently obtained this energy, with time it will probably be in that state permanently like nether", said Daimon to then add.
"The innate ability exclusive to the glyph state, is something I learned thanks to Scarlet and Amber, your fighting style made it clear that you hadn't had the time to learn martial arts besides some really basic either movement and defensive ones, respectively and yet the finishing attack you used were complex and strong enough to be at least Arch rank level techniques".
'Similar to the Risha sister's ones, given that they must have been codified in your lineages', thought Daimon to himself, he wouldn't commit the newbie mistake of directly compare two groups of highly competitive girls, out loud like a fool.
"It was worth to speak the name of my "Reverse" and mention that we didn't use curses, out loud", said Amber, which made Scarlet complain.
"Hey, that makes it sound as if I didn't contribute anything, you know that using "Burst" without saying the name was harder than using a chantless advanced spell, it was the disparity between how easy I killed my enemy without using any martial art what gave Daimon the biggest hint for the existence of our innate abilities, right?", she asked while giving a hopeful gaze at Daimon, who cleared his throat in response.
"Ahem, both contributed equally, certainly Scarlet's way to deal with the enemy as well as the special type of life spark which doesn't increase any of the known aspects of a knight, put me in the correct path to reach this conclusion, while Amber using the name of her technique, confirmed their existence and also she saying that the effects of the glyphs weren't curses, gave me the initial hint to discern the pattern of their functionality".
With those two highly competitive knight girls, satisfied with having equally contributed, Daimon could continue with his explanation for the last aspect, their glyphs.
"At first I thought Scarlet's fire attribute and battle aura got stronger due to her life spark, but then I noticed that her glyph got brighter at irregular intervals, unlike her pretty much perfect fighting style's rhythm…", he said, making Scarlet cross her arms in front of her chest, remembering the fact that Daimon could basically look through her clothes and armor whenever he wanted to.
"Speaking of that, I don't use my infinity eyes to peek at others, so don't believe whatever Sarah has told you, okay", clarified Daimon in a hurry, making Amber and the others laugh, since their glyphs weren't in a specially embarrassing part of their bodies unlike Scarlet's they had nothing to worry about.
"Anyway, though with that I could separate the special properties of your affinities for mages and life sparks for knights, it was Jade the one who helped me understand the dynamic behind the glyphs, they react to a specific inevitable occurrence in a fight", he said, making those four visibly expect his next words.
"Like the more one attacks", he said as he gazed at Scarlet whose eyes were shinning like starts.
"The more one is attacked", this time it was Amber's turn, the result was similar to Scarlet, it was rather cute to see the tall and imposing tanned girl had such a fulfilled expression, like a little girl who was complimented.
"The correlation between the nature of your existence and your affinity, this one was quite hard to discern even with the hints by the way", he said making Lapis giggle, her glyph's property was the easiest to externalize but the hardest to explain, even she couldn't safely affirm to fully understand it as of current after all.
"And last but not least, the state of the surroundings, more specifically the damage done to it by enemies, which is why a certain someone though incredibly fast, mockingly smiled every time she was attacked with a wide area spell", he concluded as he looked at Jade whose face reddened a bit for a second.
"Correct!", the four of them said in unison, which made Daimon inwardly let out a sigh of relief, this was battle uphill, since it was a new territory for his infinity eyes, had it not been for his sixth sense which covered where his eyes lacked, it would have been nearly impossible to understand them this much.
"And now what?", asked Daimon, seeing those four exchange gazes, to which Scarlet said.
"Now, Jade is going to do as we discussed", following Scarlet's words, Jade snapped her fingers and the area where they and Daimon were standing got covered by a veil of darkness, which blocked the sight of all the ones observing the battlefield.
