After that incident, no one else dared to complain. The survivors stood quietly with the soldiers while Li Tianyu sat on top of the military truck.

An hour later, a convoy of buses and military trucks arrived.

Noticing they weren't vehicles from the Second Army, Li Tianyu asked, "Which unit are you from?"

A soldier stepped forward, saluted, and replied, "We are from the First Army. We have finished evacuating the villa and residential areas, so Commander Xu ordered us to assist the Second Army with the slum evacuation."

Hearing this, Li Tianyu finally smiled faintly and said, "Thank you, Brother, for coming to help us."

"It's our duty to help each other." The soldier said calmly.

Turning back to the crowd, Li Tianyu raised his megaphone and ordered, "Form lines and board the buses."

This time, the survivors quickly obeyed, forming neat lines in front of the buses and patiently waiting to board them.

While the survivors followed the instructions of the soldiers from the Second Army, the soldiers from the First Army watched this scene in astonishment.

After a moment of silence, one of the soldiers sighed and said, "When we were evacuating the residential areas, it felt like we were fighting off aunties at a supermarket sale. Where is there order and obedience like this?"

With that, the driver started the engine, pressed the accelerator, and left the slum, followed by the other vehicles.

Just as they drove out of the slum area, a siren sounded in the direction of the west outer wall.

After he put the walkie-talkie back on the dashboard, the drivers of the military trucks and Humvees responded, "Yes, Captain."

A few seconds later, the military trucks and Humvees veered out of formation and headed toward the west wall while the buses continued their journey to the underground shelter. Normally, it would take only a few minutes to drive from the slum area to the outer wall. However, due to limited visibility and strong winds, it took them more than twenty minutes to arrive.

When Li Tianyu finally got out of the Humvee, the soldiers guarding the wall were already in the middle of a battle. Spotting them, the captain of the wall team quickly approached Li Tianyu.

Climbing up the stairs to the top of the wall, Li Tianyu asked, "What is the situation?" The captain replied, "A large group of mutant giant birds was spotted twenty-two minutes ago. They made contact ten minutes ago. We tried to fight them off, but the sandstorm is hindering us."

"Any casualties?" Li Tianyu asked.

The captain nodded grimly and replied, "Three soldiers are dead. More than half of the remaining soldiers are injured to varying degrees, and the rest are still fighting. Our ammunition is limited, but close combat is hard to do."

Hearing the report, Li Tianyu knew this battle would be difficult. Stepping to the edge of the wall, he quickly scanned the area.

He observed the mutant giant birds hovering over the wall, diving down occasionally to attack the soldiers. His jaw tightened as he took in the situation.

Li Tianyu pointed to the mutant giant birds above and said, "It's bad. The mutant giant birds are smart, and we are limited to long-range combat."

Wu Lian frowned as he watched the mutant giant birds nimbly dodge bullets and seize opportunities to attack the soldiers with their claws or beaks.

After observing for a moment, he took a satellite phone from his pocket and made a call. He waited for a few seconds before a voice came through the line.

"What is wrong, Captain Wu?" Xu Qipeng asked.

Wu Lian replied, "Commander Xu, a flock of mutant giant birds is attacking the west outer wall. We are requesting backup."

Sitting around the long table in the meeting room, Xu Qipeng's face darkened at the report.

Clenching the satellite phone, he said, "I will arrange backup immediately. Make sure the birds don't get past the wall and stay safe."

"Yes, Commander," Wu Lian replied before ending the call.

After hanging up, Xu Qipeng looked at the senior officers sitting around the long table and said, "A flock of mutant giant birds is attacking the west outer wall. Who among you is willing to go to assist Captain Wu?"

At his question, the older officers lowered their heads. Seeing this, Xu Qipeng's expression grew colder. Just as he was about to reprimand them, someone raised their hand.

"Commander, I'm willing to go."

Turning toward the voice, Xu Qipeng looked at the young man and asked, "Li Zhen, are you sure?"

Li Zhen glanced briefly at the others before meeting Xu Qipeng's eyes. He nodded and calmly

said, "Yes."

Seeing his calm yet resolute expression, Xu Qipeng said, "Alright. I'm entrusting the west outer wall to you and Captain Wu."

Li Zhen stood, saluted, and replied, "Yes, Commander."

After accepting the mission, Li Zhen left the meeting room to gather his team. While he and

his subordinates prepared to go to the west outer wall, something unexpected happened to Yao Ran and the others on their way to the underground shelter.
