Chapter 123: Yang Wei and Big-Butt Beauty; Brother to Sister Romance. Attack of the Two-Headed Beast Eagle!
Liu Yan gulped nervously as Yang Wei approached her. "I know there's a chance you might not feel the same way, or maybe you're already attracted to another man, but something just isn't right," he began, his expression faltering slightly.
A small frown creased Yang Wei's face as he adjusted his hair bangs, trying to look more appealing. The typically composed Liu Yan was taken aback by this vulnerable side of him. While she usually remained unfazed by such displays, there was something about Yang Wei's nonchalant demeanor that piqued her interest.
It weighed heavily on her chest, making her heart beat slower but louder, like the powerful strikes of a drummer growing tired.
"Wh... What has you feeling so down?" Liu Yan asked, surprised at her own stammering.
No... No, no, no. There's no way I just...
As the granddaughter of Lin Feng, she and her relatives were trained to be bold and unyielding. But being born during Lin Feng's stricter era, she couldn't fathom herself stumbling over words because of a man.
It felt out of character for her.
Yang Wei closed the very minute distance until his nose was almost touching hers. "It's the way you've been distant lately. The Big Sister I met that day when Wang Zhang attacked me is the one I love," he confessed.
Liu Yan's cheeks and nose flushed red with embarrassment, but she didn't hide her face. Instead, her eyes widened in surprise. "You're in love with me?" she repeated, her voice sounding more concerned than her usual impassive tone.
"Of course, but in a brother-sister sort of way. Isn't that the kind of relationship you wanted?" Yang Wei clarified.
The blush quickly faded from Liu Yan's face as his words deflated her romantic expectations. Her knees no longer felt weak, and her heartbeat returned to normal. "Oh, I see," she responded.
Wait, why do I feel so... disappointed...
After her short thought, she then added, "Could we, uh, get out of this somewhat romantic position? Since we're like brother and sister."
Yang Wei leaned in closer, his tone earnest. "What if I wanted us to be more than just brother and sister? Would that really be okay?" he asked.
Once more, Liu Yan's usual composed demeanor faltered as Yang Wei broached the same topic yet again. It baffled her whether he found some twisted pleasure in emotionally tormenting her like this. The urge to slap him boiled within her, but she restrained herself.
"What did you say?" Liu Yan asked with her usual soft and gentle voice.
But before Yang Wei could respond, Bai Suzhen slipped out of his storage pouch and chimed in, "Oooo~ a lover's quarrel?"
Liu Yan's eyebrows shot up in surprise at Bai Suzhen's words. "What?!" she exclaimed.
Yang Wei placed a hand on Liu Yan's head, turning her to face Bai Suzhen. "You heard her. She called us lovers," he stated.
Bai Suzhen folded her arms, raising an eyebrow at Liu Yan. "I didn't know you could be so expressive when it comes to men," she commented. Having known Liu Yan for nearly a month, Bai Suzhen understood that she wasn't one to show her emotions outwardly. Whether she was angry, embarrassed, or even happy, it never really showed on her face—just maybe a nod of approval at most.
Feeling overwhelmed, Liu Yan moved away from Yang Wei, in need of some personal space. She gently covered her mouth as she admitted, "I'm never like this around men or anyone else... just him."
"Him?" Bai Suzhen pointed at Yang Wei.
"Yes..."
Both Bai Suzhen and Yang Wei reacted in surprise. "Wait, seriously?!" they exclaimed simultaneously.
Before they could dwell on the revelation, Liu Yan sensed something approaching at a terrifying speed. "There's something..." she began, but Yang Wei interrupted her.
"Got it!" he exclaimed. It felt like he'd sensed it since and was simply waiting for the creature to come within range.
Just then, a monstrous two-headed eagle burst out of the trees.
BOOOOM!
It screeched so loudly that it effortlessly shattered some the ground and made boulders and trees pop like they were balloons. It had carved a path of destruction across the forest when it made its way here, and now it had its sights set on three unlucky cultivators—more like dinner. Dust filled the air, making both Bai Suzhen and Liu Yan cough uncontrollably.
"That thing is already in the Core Formation Realm!" said Liu Yan.
Without hesitation, Yang Wei pointed his fan forward. "Suzhen, now!" he commanded.
"Don't order me around!" Bai Suzhen shot back. However, she wasted no time and dashed towards the two-headed eagle.
As the eagle spotted its moving prey, its red eyes flashed and its sharp black feathers spread out offensively. At an impregnable speed, the monstrous flying-creature charged towards Bai Suzhen, the two on a collision course.
With lightning speed, Bai Suzhen darted forward, her hands positioned behind her as she moved so fast her legs were just a blur. But before she could reach her target, the monstrous eagle launched its attack, screeching loud enough to rip the ground apart and send boulders and trees hurtling toward her.
Quick on her feet, Bai Suzhen leaped into the air, using the springy properties of her snake body to propel herself above the projectiles.
The debris sped toward Yang Wei and Liu Yan like bullets.
"Stay back, I'll handle this!"
Liu Yan leaped forward, unleashing a martial arts stance that culminated in her thrusting her left palm forward like a fist.
BOOOM!
A tempest erupted from her palm, filled with tiny dragon vein Qi particles that swiftly atomized the boulders and sharp tree spikes hurtling toward them. Her wave palm attack even collided with the eagle's destructive sonic wave, obliterating both and neutralizing the threat.
After, Liu Yan concernedly looked back at Yang Wei. "Are you okay?" she asked him.
Yang Wei nodded as he told her, "Uh, yes." But of course, he looked a bit confused.
Her Dragon's Breath Palm is way stronger than mine, he thought.
Back to Bai Suzhen...
She soared high above her target, the colossal eagle. In an instant, she transformed into a massive white snake and dove straight down like a spear, wrapping her body tightly around the eagle.
"KRrrREEeeE!"
"KRREeeEeEE!!"
"KRRREEEEEEE!!"
Despite its attempts to screech and resist, the grip of the White Serpent proved too formidable.
"Now!" the White Serpent hissed.
Almost as if everything had been planned or scripted in advance, Yang Wei stood just a short three meters away from the restrained monster eagle.
Alright, time to test how far my blood refinement has gone!
Squatting down, his right fist poised at his side, while his left hand covered it, Yang Wei amassed immense amounts of blood Qi, causing the ground beneath him to crack gradually. In a flash, Yang Wei's Blood Spirit, or more simply, a blood avatar, materialized behind him briefly before dissolving and being absorbed into his fist.
Locking eyes with the monster eagle, which already quivered with fear, Yang Wei shouted, "Blood Fist!" His fist shot forward, unleashing a demonic fist entirely composed of blood that dwarfed both the monster eagle and the White Serpent. At the last moment, the White Serpent released its tight coil around the monster eagle, leaving it vulnerable to the full force of this devastating blow.
BOOOOOM!!
Upon impact, the Blood Fist shook the very foundation of the Red Snake Mountains, causing the landscape to tremble as mountains, hills, trees, and clouds quivered in response. The monster eagle was propelled backward like a rocket, crashing through more than twenty trees before finally planting into the foot of a hill.
