Chapter 1041: Recognition (1)
Slash!
Shiloh slashed his magic dagger at the enemy mage's torso. He initially wanted to aim at his heart, but the enemy mage managed to twist his body to the right. This happened just when Shiloh appeared at the enemy mage's left.
However.
Sizzle!
"Ngh...!"
Similar to how Britta reacted when her javelin's shaft hit the enemy mage's armor, a sizzling sound followed.
Fortunately, Shiloh's magic dagger was a rare magic item and not a weapon manifested from his magic core. If it were, he would suffer the same stinging pain Britta did.
Shiloh retracted his magic dagger and cast a Sound wave attack once more to stun the enemy mage. He did this because he knew it would have been impossible for him to evade a follow-through attack from the enemy mage.
Kyran anticipated the enemy mage to use his Sound magic to produce that strange sound wave that could stun and disorient his senses. Not bothering to adjust his trajectory, Kyran reached out his left hand and grabbed the enemy mage that had just attacked him. Even then, he still could not sense the remaining enemy mages' presence and could only rely on their killing intent to guess their position.
Sizzle!
Shiloh saw the enemy mage reach out a hand and instinctively raised his dagger to deflect it. As he did, the tip of his blade sizzled, and he immediately stopped. Simultaneously, he raised a leg and delivered a kick to the enemy mage's side.
Unlike Shiloh's magic dagger, his armor was imbued with both magic enhancements focusing defenses and an array for reflecting magic or physical damage. He was confident that the only reason the enemy mage's armor could harm them was because of its strange enhancements.
Not knowing what those were was the enemy mage's advantage over them.
In any case, Shiloh thought he could withstand the enemy mage's strange armor as long as he had enough magic and physical defenses. This had been the case with Uilleam, who managed to attack the enemy mage without worrying about receiving damage.
'Receive damage?' Shiloh almost froze in place after realization struck him. It only occurred to him that the nature of the enemy mage's barrier was a little similar to the reflect damage spell. However, rather than reflecting an attack in its entirety, it felt like any attack the enemy mage received would be met with a destructive attack.
This made Shiloh wonder if he had mistaken that the nature of the enemy mage's strength had something to do with his armor's setting. In the end, he could only drop the subject and focus on the fight at hand. Since he was already in the motion of kicking the enemy mage, it was already too late for him to stop and adjust his attack.
His kick connected, and just as he predicted, his armor managed to withstand the strange effect the enemy mage's armor could have.
"What?" Shiloh's eyes widened the moment he realized that the enemy mage had successfully blocked his kick by lowering his forearm.
Kyran frowned upon realizing that the enemy mage successfully landed a kick without his leg protector getting destroyed by the Void armor's nature.
"Don't underestimate us!" Shiloh growled, and he did a 360 turn to bombard the enemy mage with kicks.

Meanwhile, Uilleam adjusted himself and also closed in on the enemy mage. While Shiloh bombarded the latter with a series of roundhouse kicks, Uilleam looked for gaps in his motion to deliver a punch here and there.
Kyran remained calm as he evaded the attacks aimed at him. It was truly annoying that he still failed to see even the figures or silhouettes of his enemies. At the moment, he felt as if the two combat mages were shadows he was fighting like shadows.
[Zap them!]
Shaiha told Kyran in exasperation. She did not understand why Kyran had to hold back at this point. He did a brazen act of killing the two Solis representatives in one move, and yet he would not do the same with these people.
For the record, Shaiha was only ranting because she felt frustrated. Truth be told, she was aware of why Kyran could not strike them with a Void-base lightning attack.
For one thing, Kyran only did that attack to insta-kill the two Solis representatives because he wanted to avoid triggering their seals, if there were any.
Even if the Tower of the Ancients was situated in a separate special space from the Higher Realm and the connection of the people entering the portal would have been cut off from the outside, there was still a possibility for the Solis Clan to realize their representatives had died.
They might not know who did it at this point in time, but once the Tower of the Ancients closed, they might find some clues.
Besides, there might still be other Solis representatives lurking around that the official representatives did not know of.
This had been the case with the Blade Dancer Clan, so the chances of this notion being true were high.
Secondly, Kyran had a clear view of the Solis representatives. Thus, when he struck, they were hit in one try.
The situation Kyran was in this time was different, apart from his senses becoming useless. His strike would have been seen or felt by the enemy mages, especially the one possessing Sound magic.
Technically, light-based attacks could move faster than sound-based attacks. If this was the case, then it was not wrong to think that Light magic's nature could outperform the nature of Sound magic.
But Kyran's lightning was not based on Light magic. In fact, it was based on his Draconic and Void magic. He could not put it in words, but he could combine the two and mimic the effect of Lightning magic.
Kyran could only guess that the reason behind this was due to the Dragon Clan, or in particular, the Dragon Emperor's tribe, was focused on Air magic, which could be considered the main branch of Lightning magic. So, what was the connection between Draconic magic and Air magic? It had more to do with Kyran possessing the Dragon Emperor's blood, thus being sensitive to Air magic.
As a matter of fact, whenever Kyran used Draconic magic, he could feel the Air magic energies in the surroundings stir far more than other elements.
This was not to say that Kyran's Draconic magic only reacted to Air magic. There were other elements, but at the moment, because of him possessing the Dragon Emperor's bloodline.
In the end, Kyran could only ignore Shaiha's words and endured the Sound wave attack by the enemy mage.
However, the moment the sonar-like attack swept through Kyran's body, he found that he was unaffected by its stunning effect this time.
"Now, Uilleam!" Shiloh shouted the moment he saw the enemy mage's movement stop.
Uilleam need not be told twice. Upon seeing the enemy mage's movement falter, he rushed forward and put all the weight he could muster on his right arm. He used the sudden movement he did to gather force and momentum to his punch.
BAM!
The whole area shook as Uilleam felt his fist connected to something solid. He waited to hear the sound of shattering but to no avail.
At that moment, Uilleam sensed a foreboding as his heart palpitated in fear. No longer waiting for the result of his punch, he decided to retreat and jump.
Unfortunately, he could not do that as a fist came at his face, sending him reeling backward for a few feet.
Shiloh, who had witnessed what happened by emitting his sonar-like attack, was also dumbfounded. He had witnessed Uilleam's fist connected, but for some unknown reason, the enemy mage successfully absorbed Uilleam's attack with no problem. After that, the enemy mage closed the gap between him and Uilleam and sent out a punch, targetting the latter's face.
The enemy mage's fist landed too perfectly that Shiloh wondered if he was no longer affected by the multi-casted spells he used. But then it hit him: how long had it been since he cast his spells?
Shiloh was not given any time to dwell on this question as the enemy mage refrained from pursuing Uilleam and changed direction to him.
Kyran felt a strange energy sweeping his body just before the enemy mage's fist hit him. When the latter's fist finally connected, Kyran expected to be forced back a few steps by the impact.
However, that did not happen. Instead, the power that came from the enemy mage's fist exploded outward while avoiding him. Soon after that, he realized that the multi-casted spells no longer affected his senses. It felt as if a black veil had been removed in his eyes and he could finally see clearly.
Because of this, Kyran no longer hesitated and punched the enemy mage before him. After that, he did not pursue him but went after the one who wielded a dagger.
The fact that the effect of the multi-casted spells no longer affected him did not matter. Since he wanted to kill the guy first, then he would do just that.
