Chapter 270: System's Return
In the recesses of William's mind, the System felt cold.
It had been with its newest Host for around half a year if the time spent inside the Gravitas Ruins counted. While it was happy that William had survived so far, it became increasingly worried as his strength improved.
The energy it received from William's efforts had only just recently made up for the consecutive losses in the last hundred years, but the stupid Host never failed to show off his strength whenever he got it, which took a lot of energy to deal with.
His perspective is too limited, like a frog in a well...
It couldn't be helped. He hadn't seen the Myriad Realms yet. He didn't know what else was out there.
Terrifying things. Evil beings. Terrifyingly evil beings.
"Gods?" one of the System's previous Hosts had once asked.
No, those were just myths created by the common folk, meant to describe the unfathomable abilities of all-powerful Cultivators. But it wouldn't be wrong to label them as Gods compared to the standards of Efretta.
It was because of these "Gods" that the System had to pull back some of its functions from William temporarily, in order to prevent them from paying attention.
It was fine for William to undergo a Tribulation, and it was fine for him to upgrade his Magic Talents.
But for both of them at once? How could the Heavens not see that? How could they not suspect William of having a secret that even they didn't understand?
Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.
Stupid.
Host is stupid. Very, very... stupid.
Sigh.
But he's the best I've had in a while. Ever since...
No. Don't think about that person.
The System took a peek at William's situation, reaching into his memories to see the events it had missed. He was still fighting against the Elemental Beast Tide, and there were no traces of any hostile intent.
I saved him again... I should return.

William strung three arrows on the same bowstring and attempted to launch them all at once at the same target. It didn't work out as planned, one arrow falling short while the other was too high, but the second and third arrows still miraculously hit two Sandicores at the same time.
The power was more than enough to kill both Beasts, even if one of them hadn't been hit at a weak point. They both fell to the ground, their tails drooping as their life force was wiped away.
William smiled seeing his lucky shot, then tilted to the side to dodge a Marauder Scorpion's claw. He nocked another arrow, letting it loose at close range directly through a spot near the base of its tail, right through its heart.
He was about to fire another arrow at a faraway enemy when he suddenly staggered, the System's connection re-established at the same time that he regained the use of his Fire Element.

William regained his footing and continued fighting while the System did its thing. He was still in the middle of a battle, where his friends could be injured at a moment's notice. He still couldn't resurrect people, and Necromancy wouldn't be a viable option if something happened to Charlotte or the others.
Though Carl might make a good zombie.
Sensing a weird feeling from William, Carl turned his head nervously. He looked at William with a raised eyebrow, who shrugged as if nothing had happened. Carl shook his head and returned his focus to battling the Magical Beasts, but something told him that he shouldn't rely on William to keep him alive.
William laughed at his friend's uncanny response while preparing a fireball the size of a football field. The simple Spell looked like a meteor already, but William decided to open a Domain and increase the effects even further.
The fireball expanded to twice the size, almost six times as large as his Meteor Spell. It was thrown out, its large body casting an illusion that it was very slow, despite it covering a hundred meters in less than a second.
It reached the center of the Elemental Beast Tide that was well away from any allies, exploding into a flaming shower as over a thousand Magical Beasts were burned to a crisp with great precision, the perfect amount of power applied depending on the Beasts' defenses.
No energy was wasted in William's move, and the corpses would be free to collect later. It was a Spell William had been thinking of for a long time, which he would name Inferno once the System caught up.
The Cultivators were already stunned when they saw William unleash a never-before-seen Blessing Domain, but after seeing a second, they didn't know what to say. Only the oldest Cultivators that had been around for a long time, save a few exceptions, had seen a Domain, yet William had two!
Many knew that William was a Quintuple Manamatus before, but now that he started Cultivating, they didn't know how many Elements he had unlocked. For all they knew, he could have another five!
It didn't help that the Blessing Element wasn't even on the known list of Elements, so he had been hiding another one the entire time. If his other Elements were all at or above D-Rank before he started Cultivating, there was a chance he could have six Domains and even more other Elements!
"Six Domains... no, it's not possible." the Mayor muttered under his breath as he looked at William.
His emotions had flipped from nervous to anxious to relieved during the course of the battle, starting from when Yuming hadn't showed and ending when William wiped out hundreds of Magical Beasts on his own in just a few minutes.
Now that the boy had shown off two Domains, however, the Mayor became seriously worried. With William's current strength, it was obvious that he could take over all of Blue Moon City. If someone didn't come in time to stop him, it would be all over for the Mayor!
But I thought Supreme Left was dealing with him. Where is he? Did he let William go, or did he... fail?
The Mayor shook his head. Supreme Left couldn't possibly fail. Maybe he just lost track of William for a minute. He pulled out a communicator and prepared to contact a few people he hadn't spoken to in a long time.
While he spoke on the communicator from within a soundproofed Array, the other higher-ups were giving William similar looks. They tried to compare themselves to him, evaluating his battle techniques and looking for weaknesses, but there was a problem. Exclusive content from m,v lem|p,yr
They couldn't find any weaknesses!
His attack power was unbeatable, destroying the Magical Beasts in the blink of an eye, while he moved so fast that he cast constant afterimages on the battlefield. It had almost become its own Spell meant to confuse the enemy.
