1595  Last Will and Testament (Part I)

The next morning, the sky was overcast. Thick clouds concealed the sun. Lightning flashed and thunder bellowed. There was a light drizzle, but with how the bitingly cold wind was picking up, the rain might start pouring soon.

Today's weather was the complete opposite of yesterday's.

Iris and Jin Liwei welcomed the lawyer in the front hall. He was Grandma Li's lawyer, so Iris wasn't very familiar with him.

The husband and wife led the lawyer inside the family house's library.

The library hadn't been updated for so long. Ever since Jin Liwei's grandfather and father died, nobody used it anymore as an office. Jin Liwei had also long built his own palatial mansion and moved out.

Huang Yuyan was the only one who permanently lived here with the household staff. She was already a pampered young miss before marrying her husband. After she married, she became the wife of the Jin Corporation's head. Her life had always been smooth sailing.

She had always been protected by her family, then her husband, and now her eldest son.

Huang Yuyan had no need to work a day in her life.

Iris looked around the library and felt itchy. She wanted to renovate it, restore the poor unused books, and then buy more books to fill some of the empty shelves.

However, she knew that this wasn't the right time. Huang Yuyan might treat her well right now, but she didn't want to encroach on her mother-in-law's territory.

What if Huang Yuyan felt offended by Iris' desire to renovate the library?

Although Iris had good intentions, her mother-in-law might think that Iris couldn't wait to kick her out of the Jin family house and become the only mistress of the Jin clan. Iris would never want to destroy her good relationship with her mother-in-law.

Huang Yuyan and Jin Chonglin were already waiting in the library. Grandpa Lu was also present to act as a witness. Nobody questioned his presence at all. To all of them, he was a part of their family.

The lawyer cleared his throat. "On behalf of Li Zhiruo, I, as her lawyer, will now read her last will and testament."

Iris held her husband's hand. His hand was colder than normal. He must be more nervous than she first thought.

She glanced at the others.

Grandpa Lu appeared to have regained a portion of his previous energetic self. At least, his eyes didn't look as dull and exhausted as in recent days. Iris felt relieved. He caught her looking at him and smiled at her. She smiled back.

Next, she glanced at her mother-in-law. Huang Yuyan lost a lot of weight. Her complexion remained immaculate due to her religious intensive skincare regimen, but her eyes remained bloodshot caused by crying too much.

Sitting beside her was her youngest son, Jin Chonglin. He didn't care that they were indoors and that the only people present were his family members. He still continued to wear large, dark sunglasses to conceal his eyes. Like his mother and brother, he also lost a lot of weight. The hollows of his cheekbones had become more prominent.

Iris sighed on the inside. She knew that Jin Chonglin was upset that he wasn't able to bring Chen Fei inside for the reading of Grandma Li's last will and testament. However, he couldn't do anything about it.

The lawyer had specifically given them a short list in advance of the people Grandma Li wanted to be present during the reading of her last will and testament. Chen Fei wasn't on the list which was understandable because she hadn't married Jin Chonglin yet.

Iris couldn't help her brother-in-law this time.

All of them wanted to respect Grandma Li's final wishes. If the old lady only wanted them to be present, then it would only be them present. Nobody else.

The lawyer cleared his throat and began reading. There was a long introduction with a lot of legal terms.

Iris, Jin Liwei, and Grandpa Lu were all paying attention. She noticed, however, that her mother-in-law and brother-in-law quickly became dazed. She could only sigh again at the mother and son.

"Upon my death, I, Li Zhiruo will leave the following jewelry and properties to my daughter-in-law, Huang Yuyan, in addition to liquid cash assets worth 50 million RMB."

The lawyer then began reading the list of jewelry and properties which were all worth several times more than the cash assets. In total, Huang Yuyan's inheritance from her mother-in-law was worth about a billion. The properties alone, both residential and commercial, would provide her with a generous regular monthly income.

Despite this, Huang Yuyan's expression barely changed. She had already inherited more than enough from her parents, father-in-law, and husband. Her personal wealth had already made her a multibillionaire in the country all due from inheritance.

Tears flowed down her eyes.

"Mom, I miss you so much," she cried, pressing her face against her youngest son's shoulder.

Jin Chonglin patted her shoulder.

"Take back the inheritance. I don't want it anymore! Just come back, Mom!"

Iris squeezed her husband's hand. She had the urge to stand up and comfort her mother-in-law but didn't want to disrupt the lawyer too much. The faster the lawyer read the last will and testament, the quicker this would all be over.

She wasn't sure about her brother-in-law, but she knew that her mother-in-law didn't really care much about the inheritance left by Grandma Li. Iris also didn't expect to get anything.

As for her husband, Iris knew that Jin Liwei was also fine not getting anything. He was already the wealthiest in the family. Anything that Grandma Li would leave him wouldn't really add anything substantial to his already massive wealth.

However, she knew that Jin Liwei would still feel happy to receive something. It was from his grandmother after all.

Iris paid attention again. The lawyer began reading the next paragraphs.

"For my youngest grandson, Jin Chonglin, I leave…."
