Chapter 466 – A Climax
The missing corpse earlier was sitting at the end of the hidden path. Only a skeleton was left, but it was undoubtedly the corpse Max was looking for. The body looked pretty similar.
He crouched down and looked at the skeleton. It looked creepy, but he wasn't scared. This was a game, after all.
"So, this is the corpse." He muttered as he looked around. There were bones scattered around it. "How long has it been since he was dead?"
— Based on the journal, November?
— Maybe three months? Four?
— So this is the evil spirit's body?
— Most likely.
"Let's bury this corpse in a nice place." He said, taking the skeletons. He found a leather bag on the side and put all the bones inside it.
Max tied it with rope and carried it over his shoulder. Then, he left the hidden path and returned to the office.
He climbed out of the hole using the tong again. When he reached the mine, he found a fissure created from the earthquake earlier. It led outside the mine and he could use it to escape.
"Wow, to think the path opened when I read the journal. Should I say thanks?" He muttered as he walked toward it.
— Wait!
— Breeze, are you sure about this?
Max stopped walking when he heard that. He looked at the chat and found they were nervous. He looked at the chat and they continued.
— What if the evil spirit is waiting for you?
"What do you mean? There is no reason to wait for me." He asked in confusion. "Or maybe… there is a reason." He looked at the bag he brought.
— Right! Think about it.
— Breeze, that journal talked about someone manipulating the evil spirit.
— Based on the story's progression...
Max frowned as he understood what they meant.
"Are you saying the evil spirit is manipulated as well? And the corpse was hidden in the mine to prevent someone from digging it out? And now it wanted me to bring the corpse out, huh?"
That made sense.
Since the story was full of twists and surprising facts, having the mastermind show up at this time would be the most ideal story progression. They could've died too, so there was a possibility that this path was safe.
"Whoever this guy is, I will kill him!" Max shouted confidently as he lifted his tong. "Tong is power!"
Being reckless had been his character in this game. A reckless man in a horror game was... strange but fun.
Max left the mine and found the fog thickening. Blue fire floated in the air, guiding him to the location of the objective. No zombies could be seen anywhere. He walked toward the objective while putting his guard up.
Soon, he arrived at the barn where he met the evil spirit before. Max found the objective ended in a flower bed. The evil spirit was floating above it.
Max narrowed his eyes as he walked forward slowly. When he stopped in front of the flower bed, the evil spirit lowered its body. Explore hidden tales at empire
"Found... Me... Thank... You..." It muttered. "Please... Bury me..."
Max nodded as he placed the leather bag on the ground. He took out the bones one by one and buried them under the flower bed. The grave was simple but beautiful. The flower shone under the moonlight that passed through the fog, giving an ethereal feeling.
At that moment, the evil spirit disappeared into blue particles. Max watched it disappear as he waited for something to happen. The fog receded, revealing the village once again.
He stood up as he looked around. Everything looked normal except...
"Villagers..." He muttered as he watched villagers walk toward him. They had smiles on their faces as their bodies slowly turned transparent.
Everything was turning blue. Houses, barn, animals, villagers, everything.
"Thank you... Exorcist..." A voice echoed from everywhere. It was the villagers. Their voices merged together to form a single voice. "We... Will... leave..."
After that, the village vanished. Max was left alone in an empty field. Not that empty. Samuel and the Chief were still left. They were cold corpses lying on the ground.
Max looked at them and narrowed his eyes.
"Could it be, the chief and Samuel were the ones manipulating the evil spirit?"
— Probably
— This feels like an anti-climax.
— It's a good ending for the story tho, nothing is leftNôv(el)B\\jnn
— We know the reason why the evil spirit is here. We knew the villagers were just spirits. And we found the culprits
— It's a beautiful mission.
Nodding, Max looked at the chat.
"This is a good mission. The story was interesting and the mystery was solved. Too bad I couldn't kill the evil spirit. It would be cool if I could defeat it."
He looked at the location where the evil spirit disappeared earlier, at the flower bed.
Then, he saw something shining. He narrowed his eyes and got closer. Shine equals a new tool. That was what he learned from this game. So he looked for the source of the light.
And just as he expected...
"A shovel?" He picked it up and inspected it. The tool was called Grave Keeper's Shovel.
– Grave Keeper's Shovel -> Allows users to dig graves faster. Can be used to fight against undead enemies. +20% damage against evil spirit.
Then, a notification appeared.
[Objective Complete!]
[New Objective!]
[Objective: Report to the Exorcist Headquarters and receive your reward.]
Max smiled when he read the objective. This game was truly great. It had a wonderful progression and it made him immersed in the story.
"Alright."
Max equipped the shovel before leaving the empty field. He arrived at the station, the only building left in the strange Kearse Village, and departed back to London City.
During the journey, Max talked with the chat about this mission. They liked the story and felt satisfied by the ending.
In Max's opinion, this was a good horror game. But it lacked the suspense he liked. And this game was too good to be finished in one session, so...
"See you again, chat! Let's finish another mission tomorrow!" He waved at the camera before logging out of the game.
— See you again
— lol, I thought you are going to finish all quests, but I guess this is fine
