Chapter 308: In Four Days
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I-I'm sorry. Your what?"
This time, Shye couldn't stifle his laughter. These so-called true elites are truly amusing.
Their idiocy knows no bounds!
"My girlfriend. For you to come all the way from Balkrow…you must be desperate for her affection. Unfortunately for you, she has someone like me so why don't you just cry in some random corner?" Jason doubled down, prompting the eyebrows of the veterans and other rookies to rise—shocked at his insane claims.
Well, they all knew what Jason was up to and to be honest, they kinda want to see a "true elite" go up against a top-tier academy graduate like Shye.
Hence, they kept their mouths shut and watched the exciting show unfold.
"How can she be your girlfriend when she's MY girlfriend?" Shye replied with a mocking tone.
He also liked where this was going because he needed to earn points.
Now…if he could just make this farce blow up…
Hearing Shye's reply, Jason inwardly panicked.
If Shye's claims were somehow true, then his career as an adventurer would be over, instead, he might find himself embarking on a new path as a comedian!
'I can't back away now! As long as I defeat him, everything should be fine…'
"Ha! Hahahaha! You? Shirley's boyfriend?! Delusional! You know what?
I'm feeling the urge to f*ck charlatans like you up. How about a duel?" Jason replied with feigned confidence, trying his best to deduce something from Shye's reactions.
Naturally, Jason's confident response did little to diminish Shye's spirits; instead, it sounded like heavenly music to his ears.
"Oh? I'm down for that, but how about we postpone it to another day? I'm not fond of dueling in the training hall; it feels too cramped for my liking. Isn't there an arena in this city? Also, let's wait for the woman in question to arrive. It would be more satisfying if she could witness our duel." Shye replied with equal confidence, appearing to have endless enthusiasm about the duel.
However, Shye's response eradicated the last remnants of fear gnawing at Jason's heart.
'Heh, continue with the charade. It's clear to me that you're trying to impress Shirley by having her watch our duel. Well, this works out perfectly for me too.' Jason inwardly thought, believing that such a setup would work well in his favor.
If he could defeat the ace representative of the champion academy in front of Shirley, then he would undoubtedly score some points in her heart!
"Continue, I shall allow you to state your conditions," Jason said with a slight smile.
Realizing that he could blow this sh*t up however he wanted, Shye was on cloud nine.
Points were becoming harder and harder to earn, hence, he had to cook something up.
"First, let's hear from Miss Eva about Shirley's whereabouts," Shye calmly suggested, briefly redirecting the focus to the receptionist in charge of quest registration.
"Oh! Right! Miss Locke is currently undertaking a (C) ranked quest with a few rookies and veterans. Considering that the quest's time limit is 14 days, they would probably be back in around two or three days." Receptionist Eva patiently explained.
"I see, thank you for enlightening us, Miss Eva," Shye replied, offering Eva a slight bow before turning his attention toward Jason. "You heard her, let's settle this in Nookbury Arena four days from now. Also, you won't mind a nine hundred gold coin bet…will you?"
"Hmmph! Of course not! A bet simply makes this more fun and worthwhile!"
…
Once everything was settled with the assistance of yet another overly enthusiastic individual, Shye departed from the Nookbury branch headquarters with a contented smile.
Before leaving, he ensured that Eva would pass along the message to Shirley, that he was searching for her.
'Four days huh…I might as well level my warrior skills up…'
Since he had nothing to do for four days, Shye decided to level up his warrior skills through normal means.
He was a bit short on points, and he just realized that it wasn't that ideal to upgrade the level of his skills through system points, as he could just spam them in a training center to level them all up.
With a solid plan in mind, Shye walked towards the street where the training centers were located.
Temperate winds blew as he strolled along Nookbury City's streets as vivid images of Shirley seemingly emerged in the blue heavenly canvas.
'Sigh…I miss her…' Shye inwardly sighed, dampening his jolly mood. 'Well, in four more days, we'll see each other. I'll make sure to take "extra good care" of her.'
Consoling himself with thoughts of intimacy with Shirley, Shye continued walking towards the training center, arriving around fifteen minutes later.
'Hoh? There are quite a lot of training centers to choose from…' He mused, his head swiveling left and right as he attempted to determine which option was best for him. 'Well, how will I know which one is the best without even entering?'
Finally, after around twenty minutes of "training center-hopping" Shye opted to rent a warrior training room in a training center called "Gale Blader".
The room rates were mostly the same with other training centers: 70 silver coins per hour for a regular training room and 120 silver coins per hour for a premium one.
However, the rooms of this training center were a bit more private than the others, compelling Shye to choose it over the others.
With a bit more experience under his belt, Shye decided to rent a regular room to focus on leveling up all his warrior skills to level three before considering switching to the premium option.
'Hoh? The heck is this?' Shye wondered as he stared at a training dummy made of some sort of metal.
This was the first time he encountered this type of metal dummy, hence, he couldn't help but try hitting it with a regular attack.
*CLANG!*
"96!"
'Oh? That felt good…Then how about this?'
*CLANG!*
"195!"
Content with the sensation of striking the dummy, Shye set aside all his belongings and proceeded to perform a few warm-up routines.
Then, after completing his warm-up, he retrieved both greatswords from his inventory and proceeded to slash and stab at the metal dummy, using various skills until eventually, he started to receive the notifications he yearned for.
