Chapter 812: Why are you killing yourself?
It was a breathtaking sight, so beautiful that every single person watching in the surroundings was utterly captivated. The elves shed tears of joy as they witnessed the Tree of Fate regaining its former glory.
A small number of tiny flowers made of spiritual energy erupted from its branches, accompanied by a sweet melody that filled the air as the tree expressed its gratitude.
Everyone watched as the flowers moved together in sync and circled around Kyle, who floated before the tree. They shone with a brilliance that surpassed even the light emanating from the tree itself.
The barren land of the vast planet, which had been affected by dark energy and the battles that had transpired on it, began to transform, turning green once more as the roots of the tree surged outward, claiming more space in the surrounding area.
They wove their way through the dry landscape, revitalizing the dry soil. This rejuvenation breathed life back into the terrain, as small vibrant grasses and colorful flowers began to sprout.
Kyle touched the tiny flowers surrounding him. He had already received the blessing of the Tree of Fate when he and Yue got married beneath its towering form.
That's why, not thinking much of it, he absorbed the flowers made of spiritual energy into his body to regain some of his lost energy, leaving many people watching the breathtaking scene a bit speechless.
He turned back and found Jian gazing at him with a wry smile, one that suggested a parent who had resigned themselves to the futility of reprimanding their children.
"What?"
He shrugged when Jian shook his head with a chuckle, and the teardrop symbol on his neck glowed as his appearance shifted once more, concealing his true form.
All the elves cheered loudly and thanked him heartily, along with their Queen. They even promised to repay this gratitude if he ever needed them in the future. They would stand by his side, even if no one else did.
Alec and Asher, who were floating beside James and his group, rubbed their noses sheepishly, appearing more pleased than the one who had put in the most effort.
Kyle felt uncomfortable with so many people bowing before him. He nodded at the Queen and the supreme rank elves.
"There's no need for all that. I just did this to repay-"n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Jian interrupted him mid-sentence, fully aware of what he was about to say.
"He has acknowledged the gratitude. I just hope the elves will honor the promise they made today. If they fail to do so, this will be our final offer of assistance."
He gestured for Kyle to remain silent and communicated with him mentally.
'Just accept it when someone expresses gratitude to you. There's no need to refuse after you have already done something so significant for their race.'
With a raised brow, Kyle turned his gaze away, leaving the task of conversing with the elves to the red-haired man.
The atmosphere on the planet was frigid, undoubtedly because of the blue flames and cold power he had wielded.
He glanced at the Tree of Fate. Many of its branches had once again grown tall enough to reach and surpass the boundary of the planet, so high that he was sure they could be seen even from outside the planet.
Amisdt this, he noticed that the tree hadn't yet regained its full strength. It was evident from the number of leaves growing on its surface, which was lower compared to the first time he had seen the tree. This was to be expected, as part of its core had already been consumed and was missing.
Nevertheless, with the remaining fragment of the core in its body and the vitality array Kyle had engraved on it, its consciousness had been saved from dying, and the tree had regained much of its strength.
Now the Tree of Fate could recuperate, recover its damaged consciousness, and gradually restore its power over time.
Suddenly, almost as if sensing something, Kyle's eyes narrowed, and he vanished.
James and many others noticed this.
"Where did he go?"
He and everyone received their answer when a painful scream tore through the air. They looked in the distance, and from the shadows, a figure was thrown out.
The person gasped, blood oozing from his mouth as he clenched his stomach where he had just been punched. Kyle appeared beside him with a frown.
"Why are you killing yourself?"
Wesley, the Queen, and the elves who recognized the figure gasped and quickly rushed toward the man, who was coughing blood and groaning in pain before Kyle.
Ronan let out a self-deprecating chuckle when he noticed so many eyes on him.
"I don't have a choice. That's why."
He had already accepted his fate. It was true he didn't want to die. Who would want to when there was no Realm of the Dead? But he didn't want to harm his own people any further with his actions. So, even if his existence would disappear with his death, he wished for it to end his misery.
Wesley clenched his fists. He didn't want his friend to die, but Ronan had signed the dark contract and harmed his own race. It was true Ronan was forced, but even if they didn't eliminate him, he would still be under Samara's control. He glanced at the Queen and the other supreme-rank elves, but they also had no idea what to do.
Jian appeared and crouched down beside Ronan's body. Unlike Yue and the others, he and his team were unaware of what had transpired on the elven planet.
"Care to provide the reason?"
Ronan shut his eyes. He clenched his fists so tightly that his knuckles turned white and his nails dug into his palms.
"Because... I betrayed my people and signed the dark contract. At that moment, I just wanted to avoid death, but who would have thought I would cause so much harm to my own people? Now, I am nothing but a slave to the dark side, and they can tamper with my consciousness at any time."
What do you think?
